About Equibit Exchange

EquiBit Exchange is a horse bit rental service designed to help riders find the right bit without the cost and frustration of buying bit after bit.

Instead of committing to an expensive bit that may not work for your horse, EquiBit Exchange lets you rent, ride, evaluate, and exchange different bits so you can make a more informed decision.

We offer riders access to a variety of bit styles, sizes, and materials, giving you the opportunity to see how a bit performs in real riding situations with your own horse.

Our goal is simple: make finding the right bit easier, more affordable, and less of a guessing game.

Finding the right bit can take some trial and error—and buying multiple bits that don't work can get expensive quickly.

EquiBit Exchange lets you try before you buy. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a bit your horse may not like, you can rent a bit, ride in it, and evaluate how your horse responds in real-world riding situations.

Renting allows you to:

  • Try different bits without purchasing each one
  • Save money on expensive trial-and-error purchases
  • Swap for another bit if your first choice isn't working
  • Evaluate the bit with your own horse, rather than relying solely on someone else's experience
  • Buy with confidence when you find an option that works for you and your horse

EquiBit Exchange is for riders who want to make more informed decisions about their horse's bit without spending a fortune on trial and error.

We're here for:

  • Riders trying to find a bit that works for their horse — especially when their current bit isn't giving them the communication or comfort they're looking for.
  •  Riders who want to experiment with different mouthpieces, materials, styles, or bit designs before committing to a purchase.
  •  Budget-conscious equestrians who don't want to buy multiple expensive bits that may end up sitting in the tack room.
  •  Trainers and professionals who want access to different options when working with horses with different needs.
  •  Competitive and recreational riders alike who want to evaluate a bit in their own riding environment.
  •  Anyone who's ever thought, "Maybe my horse would go better in something else..."

Cleaning and Sanitizing

Each bit is thoroughly cleaned using warm water, a mild detergent, and soft brushes designed to remove visible organic material without damaging the finish. To read more about our Biosecurity protocol click here.

Once cleaned, every bit is completely immersed in Rescue™ Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide disinfectant for the manufacturer's recommended contact time.

Rescue™ is an EPA-registered disinfectant widely used in veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, and equine facilities. It is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, fungi, and viruses while remaining compatible with stainless steel, titanium, and many other materials commonly used in horse bits.

Before a bit is approved for rental, it undergoes one final inspection to verify that it is:

  • Clean
  • Properly disinfected
  • Free from visible defects
  • Fully functional
  • Completely dry
  • Ready for use

Every processed bit is documented as part of our quality assurance program.

We take every precaution to minimize cross-contamination between horses and follow careful cleaning and sanitation practices. If you have any questions about our practice, please don't hesitate to reach out. Ultimately, we want you to feel comfortable and confident in your decision, so choosing to rent a bit for trial is at your own discretion.

Choosing the Right bit

Choosing the right bit for your horse involves many factors, and working with a professional bit fitter can help guide you toward the best options. Ultimately, bit selection is a personal decision based on your horse’s individual needs and preferences. The best way to discover what works for your horse is to try different options and see what they respond to best!

Damage and Wear

Minor surface marks and signs of use are expected when trialing a bit. The amount of wear may vary depending on the type of metal and material the bit is made from. At EquiBit, we understand that bits are meant to be used, and we expect a small amount of normal wear with each rental.

We understand that accidents can happen! If your horse damages the bit beyond what is considered normal wear and tear, you will be responsible for the full purchase price of the bit. If damage occurs, please contact us as soon as possible so we can help you navigate the next steps.

Please contact our customer service team immediately and we will be happy to help!

If a bit is lost, you will be charged the whole price of the bit less the rental fee.

We recommend:

  • Storing bits in a secure tack area
  • Using our packaging for safe returns
